On Grey's Anatomy, perhaps it is not just Cristina Yang who is raising an eyebrow over the rather sudden and apparent closeness between Erica Hahn and Callie Torres. It is just so sudden. In the episode "Where The Wild Things Are," the returning Addie Montgomery, in jest or otherwise, asks Callie if they are dating. Callie just laughed it off, but later on, when it was revealed that she and Erica are hanging out in the apartment Cristina left for two weeks for the surgery contest among the residents, it was an idea which isn't very hard to dismiss.
Cristina immediately becomes suspicious. Then again she did not really have a sunny history with Erica, who hates her because of her kiss-up ways. She approaches Callie and demands to know if she is hanging out with her. Cristina repeatedly calls her Dr. Hahn but Callie insists on calling her Erica. Callie reveals to Cristina that they went out the night before and stayed out pretty late dancing. After which, Callie drifts off, making viewers wonder what else happened. Also quite obvious was the mysterious kind of smile on Callie's face when she confirms that they are, indeed, "friends".
If the writers of Grey's Anatomy indeed intend to inject this little lesbian act into the storyline, it will explain some things, but will also muddle up the storyline. It will explain why Erica is not into Mark Sloan, an otherwise very delectable man. On the other hand, it is also possible to suggest that Erica is merely undergoing a phase, a kind of hatred towards man that might be misconstrued as being lesbian. After all, she was very harsh in rejecting Mark while saying that if not for his looks, he would not get away with his offensive banters. All in all, anything tastefully different is always more exciting.
