Gay pride or LGBT pride is a concept where gay, lesbian, bisexual and people, who are transgender, should be proud because of their gender identity and sexual orientation. There are three main precedence of this concept: people should take pride due to their sexual orientation, diversity is a gift, and that sexual orientation is in born and not intentionally altered.
The use of the word ‘pride’ has some historical significance. Throughout the ages, the LGBT persons are generally oppressed in the society. Pride, which is an antonym of shame, is used as an affirmation of self identity and of the community as a whole. This movement started in 1969 with the Stonewall Riots. The gay people of the bar did not back down to the violent assault of the New York Police, but fought back. This incident gave this community a sense of communal pride and was pretty much publicized. Since then, every year this day is celebrated as gay pride all over the world to commemorate the Stonewall riots anniversary.

This pride movement has helped a lot to the cause of the gay community.
This movement has helped to gain gay rights for these people by various ways. They have lobbied the politicians, registered voting right for the gay or LGBT and also increased the consciousness amongst the people about important issues related to LGBT communities. The gay pride advocates equal rights and benefits for the LGBT people.

Every year a parade is organized across many countries. This gay pride parade takes a vibrant shape with lots of dancing, and singing all along the parade. Even politicians and social activists take part in the parade. The LGBT community also has a flag. The flag is rainbow colored with a butterfly and the Greek symbol lambda along with the pink and black triangles that have been reclaimed from previous uses
